The Nissan Murano has always been positioned as a more premium offering with two rows of seats and an air of luxury above other models in its lineup. This mid-size SUV had a long run so far and needed a major update.
This 2025 model became more than just an update. Nissan took the opportunity to introduce new design elements inside and out, as well as raising the bar in technology, driver assistance, performance and efficiency.
This is the result of a long wait for a new Murano. Did Nissan accomplished a better SUV?
While the shape may look familiar from prior generation models, the 2025 Murano melds signature exterior design elements with new ones from other Nissan models. The front end is influenced by the new Kicks. The lighting signatures are slim as attached to the grille. Above the grille is a unique trim band with the Murano name embossed on the side.
In the back is a horizontal LED taillight bar that defines the belt line. That seems to be influenced by the Pathfinder, but it works with the sloping roofline and curvy shape of the liftgate. The side profile follows previous Muranos with its glasshouse at the C-pillar and trim surrounding it. Our Platinum tester came with 21-inch dark-finished alloy wheels with an aerodynamic design.
When you step inside, you will see more of Nissan’s design language employed on the Murano’s dashboard, steering wheel, and center console. This is also influenced by the Ariya. A flat panel houses both the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. They offer a lot of information, readouts, and functionality between the two screens. That functionality also includes Google built-in and its associated apps, however you can easily connect your smartphone wirelessly.
Controls are a mix of tactile and haptic touch. The transmission is actuated by buttons on the center console instead of a shifter. There is a new two-spoke steering wheel with tactile controls, as well.
Semi-aniline leather seats are very comfortable, offering some bolstering and support. The space in both the front and rear seats are exceptional. Although head room could be a challenge for taller passengers in the rear. Cargo space was large with 32.9 cubic feet available behind the second row. Fold down the second-row seats to expand up to 63.5 cubic feet overall.
For the new Murano, they switched from a V6 to a turbocharged 2.0-liter variable combustion four-cylinder engine. This new engine delivers 241 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels.
There's plenty of power coming from this VC Turbo engine. Acceleration is nice, especially getting onto the highway. Passing seems just fine, as well. In terms of fuel economy, the 2025 Murano with all-wheel drive is rated by the EPA at 21 MPG in the city; 27 MPG on the highway.
The ride quality is quite nice. Rougher roads were managed quite well with absorbent shocks and suspension systems. While we experienced some soft handling feel, the Murano was poised when it needed to be, even though we found that the Murano exhibited some lean and roll through the turns and maneuvers
On-center feel of the steering was reigned in for this generation. Turning and steering action was on point with precise turns accomplished without fail. Brakes were fine with solid stops observed in normal and panic situations. We liked the solid pedal feel for managing stops.
The 2025 Nissan Murano lineup is available in three trim levels. Pricing starts from $40,470. Our Platinum tester with all-wheel drive came in with a sticker price of $51,415.
The newest Nissan Murano continues to be a stalwart in the mid-size, two-row SUV segment. However, it still attracts a crowd for consumers to choose from. Those competitors include the Chevrolet Blazer, Honda Passport, Toyota Crown Signia, Mazda CX-70, Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
There were some improvements on the 2025 Nissan Murano over past generations. More than enough to consider one. It still remains a premium offering among mainstream brands, which makes this one even more special.
